Sen. Wiles Named to Finance Committee
1/20/2010
Last week, the 2010 session of the Georgia General Assembly began. We face a great many challenges this year, with a budget shortfall making it more difficult than ever to meet the fundamental needs of our citizens. I assure you that I will work hard with my colleagues to make sure we meet those needs and balance the budget without raising taxes.
Should you need anything during the session, please contact me. I have provided my contact information, as well as information about my Capitol staff. As always, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve.
Sincerely,
John Wiles

Sen. Wiles Appointed to the Senate Finance Committee
State Sen. John Wiles (R-Kennesaw) was recently appointed to the Senate Finance Committee by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. The Finance Committee considers issues of critical importance to the state's tax structure and available revenue streams, with a goal of enforcing fair tax policy and spurring economic development while ensuring necessary state services are maintained.
"Senator Wiles is a proven and capable leader and will provide the Finance Committee with valuable insight. We are privileged to count him as a member of the Senate as we tackle a tough budget and other challenging issues this session," said Cagle.
"I want to thank Lt. Governor Cagle for entrusting me on this prestigious committee. I look forward to further serving the citizens of Cobb County and all of Georgia in this new capacity. Our state's financial system must work effectively and efficiently for a stronger, healthier Georgia," said Wiles.
Wiles was appointed as the Chairman of the Special Judiciary Committee in 2009. Wiles continues to support and practice fiscal conservative values. He has supported family and children's issues throughout his political career. He has championed the HERO scholarship which helps those in the military reserve and their families pay for higher education. Since 2004 the scholarship has awarded over $640 thousand dollars to those deserving applicants. He has supported measures to reform Georgia's public defender system in an effort to reduce costs and alleviate the burden on tax payers. He has also increased penalties for unlicensed drivers. Before his time in the Senate, he served in the State House of Representatives. Professionally, Sen. Wiles is a managing partner of the law firm Wiles and Wiles which specializes in commercial real estate litigation.
Along with his committee assignments, Sen. Wiles holds the title of Senate chief deputy whip, assuming responsibility in the absence of the majority whip.
