Wiles Named to Vital Transportation Committee
4/17/2009
Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle has appointed Senator John Wiles, along with Senators Kasim Reed and Jeff Mullis, to the Transportation Funding Conference Committee.
"Senator Wiles has been a strong leader in the Senate and as we work diligently towards a transportation solution, I am confident in his abilities. We have pushed hard to address our state's transportation infrastructure and look forward to putting a solution before Georgia voters for their input," said Lt Governor Casey Cagle.
Transportation funding has been one of the major issues facing the Georgia General Assembly in recent years. While there has been consensus on the need for funding, various proposals have been put forth, from the regional T-SPLOST passed by the Senate, to a statewide sales tax passed by the House. The members of the conference committee will work together to find the best method to address the transportation need of our state, while working hard to keep the tax burden low and allowing maximum input from citizens.
"It is an honor for the Lt. Governor to entrust me with this opportunity. The Senate has been an early and strong advocate for a funding solution and I look forward to working in good faith with our friends in the House," said Senator John Wiles.
