Protecting Property Rights (Eminent Domain)
In 2005, a rogue board in Cobb County wanted to condemn a family farm for a
new school when there was other land available.
- Senator Wiles, like most people around the state, knew this was wrong and
immediately took on that board by introducing legislation that would
prevent any school board from taking land under eminent domain when
other suitable land is available.
- John believes that property rights are inherently protected by the U.S.
Constitution and governments should have a very clear reason before taking
peoples property. As State Senator, John has authored or sponsored many
pieces of legislation to address this issue and will continue to do so as
more situations and issues arise, including the newest problem of inverse
condemnation. (HB1313
& SB30)
Protecting our Families
Protecting families has always been a top priority for Senator Wiles including
work to enact tougher laws ensuring sexual predators will not walk the streets of
Georgia untracked.
- John worked to pass the toughest sexual predator bill in the nation
(HB1059),
ensuring those sexual offenders who are deemed dangerous will be required to
wear a GPS tracking system if released after serving a minimum 25 year
sentence as well as be prevented from living in areas where they can prey
on our children.
- Kimberly’s Call was a priority for John after the tragedy that Kimberly
Boyd faced and the realization that there was no way for the communications
network to help an adult in crisis. Based on the very successful Levi’s call,
if an adult is abducted we can immediately notify the public through the same
system as we do for a Levi’s call thanks to the leadership of Senator John Wiles.
