John J. Wiles, Kennesaw, was born on August 21, 1957 in Stuttgart, Germany,
where his father was serving in the United States Army. He was raised in East
Point, Georgia and moved to south Cobb County in 1976. He left Cobb in 1978 to
attend The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he received
his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1980. He attended law school at Stetson University
College of Law where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1983. After law school,
he returned to Cobb County in 1984 to work as assistant solicitor in the Cobb
County Solicitor’s Office. He and his family have lived here since then.
John is married to the former Janet Louise Hughes of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
The Wiles family attends NorthStar Church. They have three sons, John, Jr., Drew,
and Max, and two daughters, Margi, and Quincy. He is a member of the Marietta
Kiwanis and serves on the board of directors of the Acworth Business Association.
He is also a member of the Kennesaw Business Association.
John is the managing partner of the law firm of Wiles & Wiles. Wiles &
Wiles concentrates in real estate litigation. He is a member of the Cobb Chamber
of Commerce, the State Bar of Georgia, the Florida Bar and the Tennessee Bar.
John Wiles was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2004 where he is the Chairman
of the State and Local Government Operations Committee. He serves on the Judiciary,
Higher Education and State Institutions and Property Committee. John was recently
appointed by Senate leadership as a Deputy Majority Whip for the Republican Caucus.
John served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1994 through 2003. He
served as a Deputy Majority Whip for the Republican Caucus. He was also the chairman
of the Cobb Legislative Delegation. He served on the House Judiciary, Motor Vehicles
and the Higher Education committees. In the legislature, John has concentrated on children’s
and teenage issues having been instrumental in the introduction and ultimate passing
of the bill \to safeguard mothers and newborn babies through insured hospital care. He
also co-sponsored legislation to protect those who have surgery as a result of breast
cancer. John was the State Chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council..
